When I first dreamed up the idea of book·cation, I was in the thick of early motherhood. My daughter was a year and a half, and I had just found out I was pregnant with my son. 🤰 I was thrilled about our growing family — but right behind the excitement came the reality of financial planning.
My husband and I have always been intentional with our money. We use a budget, and after paying off our debt right before our daughter was born, we became even more mindful about what we spend on. As I brainstormed what book·cation could be, I knew two things for certain: this kind of experience was needed in the world and I want it to be accessible to as many people as possible — no matter their budget. 👏
Sure, everyone loves a five-star luxury getaway, but not everyone has the financial flexibility (or the free time) to make that happen. I proudly represent the budget-conscious friends who save up, split payments, and make it work.
So what if I could create something that feels five-star without the five-star price tag?
Book·cation is truly for everyone. And at its heart, my hope is that when people see what this experience offers, they’ll know not only that it’s worth the cost, but also that every price and location has been chosen with care. Now that we’re hosting retreats across the country, here’s what I always keep in mind when picking our destinations.
#1 – Location
My goal in keeping book·cation budget-friendly is to choose a variety of locations across the country. That way, there’s a good chance at least one will be within driving distance for most people. I know plane tickets can get expensive, so I’m intentional about rotating through different regions and representing as many areas as possible.
Until the day I can host multiple retreats at once (a girl can dream!), my plan is to offer several each year – one in each region – so more readers can join the fun without breaking the bank.
#2 – Room Price
There are so many amazing hotels and resorts in the U.S., but when I’m scouting a book·cation location, I’m looking for spots where lodging is $300/night or less. (And yes — you can always upgrade your room if you want to!) In most areas, $250–$300/night is pretty standard, and I’ll always do my best to get you the best deal possible wherever we are.
The best part? That cost can drop fast if you bring your book besties along. Split a $300/night room with one friend and your lodging is instantly cut in half. Bring two friends, and the nightly price keeps shrinking leaving you with more money for books, snacks, and maybe a spa treatment. 😉
#3 – Amenities
Book·cation will always be at a resort because I want us all to feel completely taken care of. One thing I learned after hosting my own book·cations with friends? I did not want to be the one cooking or coordinating food. I know I’m the host, but I want to enjoy myself too! 😂 Cooking for people (or setting up meals) is not something that rbings me joy, so you can bet I’m going to delegate that.
At book·cation, there’s no meal planning, no cooking, no dishes — just show up and eat. 🙌
And because I truly want you to be relaxed and treat yourself, we’ll always be at a resort with a spa. 🧖♀️ Not everyone will choose to book treatments, and that’s totally fine, there’s zero pressure. But I want you to have the option to pamper yourself because you deserve it!
#4 – Your Input
In fall 2024, I created a Google form to get your input on potential locations. I asked where you live, how far you’d be willing to travel, and what activities you’d enjoy. If you haven’t filled it out yet, you can do so here! 👈
Your responses helped shape the four retreat locations planned for 2026. I’m always open to new ideas, so if you have favorite resorts or spots in mind, please share!
So far for 2026, our spring locations have been set! We’ll be going to North Carolina in February and Colorado in April. Click the links for further details including pricing, lodging, and itinerary.

As I said earlier, book·cation is an experience for everyone! No matter who you read with or what genre you prefer, you’re welcome. I can’t wait to host a retreat near you! 📚
