I have a lot of titles in life (mom, wife, sister, friend, teacher, mentor, and leader to name a few), but I'm also a bookworm who longs to recharge by getting away for a quiet weekend of uninterrupted reading and community. Did your ears just perk up?
Then you're in the right place, friend!
For the first 23 years of my life, 'reader' was one of my defining character traits and everyone knew it. But in 2013 when I started my first business, I had a [terrible] idea to stop reading fiction. I thought that if I wanted to be successful, I couldn't spend all my time reading books that wouldn't move me forward. I started only reading personal growth/business books and though I've read so many great books that have helped me grow, I missed fiction with a passion. In October 2022 I decided to start reading fiction again and curling up with a book in my favorite blanket on a fall day felt like coming home. And yes, I devoured that Emily Henry book in 36 hours and my husband was just a little concerned, LOL!
As I fell back in love with reading again, I was finding myself annoyed that I had to keep coming back to my real world responsibilities instead of getting lost in a book. (I know I'm not the only person who feels that way!) I decided that I needed a weekend away to fill my cup with reading and reached out to some friends to pitch my idea. I immediately got so many responses of YES! But I also got responses of people who weren't able to come and were mad; they wanted me to tell them when I was going to do another one. At that moment a thought occurred to me... if my friends and I are all craving this type of respite then there must be so many others who feel the same way! And with that, book·cation was born!
