⚠️ The playlist description contains some spoilers. If you have not finished the series, proceed with caution.
Ask anyone to describe me and one of the top things they’ll say will most likely include my love for music. It could range anywhere from ‘DJ in a past life’ to ‘would crush it in a lip sync battle’ to ‘knows the lyrics to most every song’ 🤣 What can I say? Music is a HUGE part of my life!
Music can change how I feel in an instant and I have playlists that match every mood. For example, if I need to be pumped up, you bet I’m turning on my ‘Spring Break 2018’ playlist (#IYKYK) 🙌 If I’m looking for an eclectic mix of fast/slow, I turn on one of my seasonal playlists. And yes, I did make playlists for when I was in labor 💁♀️
But a new level of my music/playlist making has been unlocked since starting reading fiction again, especially fantasy. Now when I listen to songs, the lyrics remind me of characters, plot points, or elements to books! I’ve been debating whether to make them into a thing or not…
…but I decided to go for it because the world needs some book related, curated playlists! 😉
When I jumped back into the fantasy world, I started with Sarah J Maas of course! Though I read ACOTAR first, the songs didn’t start really coming to me until I was reading Throne of Glass. That’s why I chose Throne of Glass as my first book playlist 🦌
If you have Spotify, you can check out the playlist HERE or listen below! Be warned, because this isn’t my 2007 iTunes account, I can’t change titles or album covers for you to know exactly who each song is for. So to make up for that, here’s a list of who/what each song represents!
NOTE: Some songs are purely based on vibes (like the song for the cadre), but most have a connection to lyrics, too.
| CELAENA ‘Seven Nation Army’ by The White Stripes Can’t you picture her just tearing people down while this plays in the background? | ||
| SAM (and also any SJM MMC after falling in love) ‘Everything to Me’ by Mark Wilkinson I’m not crying, YOU are… | ||
| AROBYNN ‘Stunnin’ by Curtis Waters He is truly the worst and this song captures his arrogance/swagger v well IMO. | ||
| DORIAN ‘What a Man Gotta Do’ by Jonas Brothers A little golden retriever energy at the beginning and I’m here for it. | ||
| CHAOL ‘Under Pressure’ by Queen + David Bowie He was constantly under so much pressure! (Most of which was self-induced, but still!) | ||
| ROWAN (when we first meet him) ‘I’ll Make a Man Out of You’ from Mulan I had to. | ||
| AELIN ‘Wild’ by Heidi Webster Picture her on her horse riding through the desert! | ||
| ROWAN (after Aelin) ‘Latch (Acoustic)’ by Sam Smith The most beautiful song for the most epic love. | ||
| AEDION (pre Lysandra) ‘Wolf’ by The Spencer Lee Band I mean, the lyrics fits, but the title was too spot on! | ||
| LYSANDRA ‘Fighter’ by Christina Aguilera She’s been through so much and is so resilient! | ||
| MANON ‘Sorry Not Sorry’ by Demi Lovato This doesn’t need an explantion. | ||
| anytime the 13 does anything ‘Who Run the World’ by Beyonce This doesn’t either. | ||
| MAEVE ‘This is the Thanks I Get’ from Wish These lyrics are 1000% accurate for her. | ||
| ELIDE ‘The Climb’ by Miley Cyrus Slightly ironic because she can’t climb well, but the lyrics still fit! | ||
| YRENE ‘The Cure’ by Lady GaGa I think this is the most accurate song/character pairing I will ever do. | ||
| ‘so Lorcan did.’ ‘Adorn’ by Miguel WE NEED A NOVELLA, SARAH! | ||
| CHAOL + AELIN ‘Apologies’ by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals A beautiful song about moving on after love. | ||
| GAVRIEL ‘Have a Little Faith in Me’ by John Hiatt “close the gate Aedion.” | ||
| AEDION + LYSANDRA ‘Lost in Translation’ by Johnnyswim They just needed to get on the same dang page! | ||
| THE CADRE ‘The Immigrant Song’ by Led Zeppelin Tell me you don’t agree… | ||
| DORIAN + AELIN + CHAOL’S HUG ‘I’ll Stand By You’ by The Pretenders I love their friendship!! | ||
| their found family ‘Life is Beautiful’ by Vega4 ending credits song |
Which song(s) do you think depict the character best?
I’d LOVE to hear in the comments! And while you’re at it, let me know if you’d like to see more playlists. I had such a blast putting this together and might already be halfway thru an ACOTAR one as I type. 😉
